The goal of the IrFM Qualification Program is to promote the adoption of IrFM technologies by establishing concrete testing requirements, ensuring the testing requirements are met correctly, and affirming compliance.

The IrFM Qualification program allows participating manufacturers to show that their products operate according to IrDA's specifications for infrared financial messaging. A product is designated as "IrFM Qualified" when it has been verified according to test specifications by an independent IrFM Test Lab. Because they have shown their compliance with published specifications, qualified IrFM implementations have a far greater chance of achieving global interoperability.  Qualified products are registered with IrDA and posted on the website in the IrFM Qualified Products page.  In addition, IrFM qualification is a requirement for Visa International certification.
